Welcome to Heworth Church of England Primary School – a small school with a big heart, where every child and adult flourishes academically, spiritually and culturally.

Rooted in the historic city of York and the vibrant community of Heworth, our school is a place where tradition meets ambition. We are proud of our Christian foundation and our theologically based vision: Helping children and adults to flourish academically, spiritually and culturally. These words guide everything we do and reflect our commitment to nurturing the whole child and developing our whole school community.

As Ofsted noted, “Heworth is a small school where everyone knows each other well. This helps pupils to feel safe and cared for.” We are proud of the strong relationships that underpin life at our school. Children thrive in an environment where they are truly seen and supported – where respect, compassion, courage and perseverance go hand in hand.

Being in York—a city rich in history, culture and opportunity—gives us a wonderful backdrop to inspire our pupils. From the stories embedded in our local streets to the strong sense of community around us, we embrace our setting as part of each child’s learning journey and personal growth.
Our aim is to ensure that every child leaves Heworth with a strong sense of identity, a love of learning and the confidence to contribute positively to the world around them. We want our children to be curious, compassionate and courageous—ready for the next stage of their lives and grounded in values that will guide them throughout.

Thank you for taking the time to explore our website. Whether you’re a current parent, a prospective family, or simply interested in our school, I hope you’ll catch a glimpse of the warmth, joy and purpose that make Heworth CE Primary such a special place.

With warm regards,
